PARTICIPANT FEEDBACK

In Their Own Words

"I have been meaning to sort out my personal finances for years, but between running my hardware shop in Butterworth and raising three children, it never happened. The Business Owner session was two afternoons well spent. I finally understand what to do with my EPF and how to pay myself properly."

"The healthcare course was confronting at times — the cost projections made me realise how underprepared I was for medical expenses in retirement. But it gave me a clear picture and a tool to start working with. I have already had a follow-up conversation with my insurance agent that I would not have known to have before."

"I am 52 and felt like I should know more than I do. The Flourishing Fifties Programme was genuinely the most useful thing I have done for my financial situation in the last decade. The quarterly check-ins are a real addition — having someone to review the plan with keeps you honest. Worth every Ringgit."

"What I appreciated most was that no one tried to sell me anything. I have sat through too many so-called financial education events that turned into product pitches halfway through. Bestari Hub is different. It is proper education, delivered respectfully."

"I attended the Healthcare Deep-Dive with my husband. We both work in the private sector and were making assumptions about our coverage that turned out to be wrong. The course corrected several gaps we did not know existed, and the projection model helped us see the numbers side by side."

"I came in expecting a lecture with slides. What I got was more of a working session — we actually sat down and applied the material to our own situations. The facilitator knew her subject thoroughly. I left with a clearer picture of where I stand financially than I have had in years."

Case Studies

BUSINESS OWNER PERSONAL FINANCE SESSION

From tangled finances to a clear personal salary structure — in two sessions.

The Challenge

A 46-year-old café owner in George Town was drawing money from her business account irregularly, with no fixed personal salary. Her personal and business taxes were being managed by the same accountant but not coordinated. She had virtually no personal savings separate from the business.

The Approach

Through the Business Owner Personal Finance Session, she mapped out her current financial overlap using the separation checklist. The facilitator helped her understand a structured salary arrangement and how to treat her EPF contributions consistently as a business owner.

The Outcome

Within three months she had established a personal salary structure, opened a dedicated personal savings account, and had a follow-up conversation with her accountant based on the specific questions the programme helped her formulate.

FLOURISHING FIFTIES PROGRAMME

A 54-year-old teacher who thought it was too late — and found it was not.

The Challenge

A secondary school teacher aged 54 had always assumed his pension and EPF would carry him through retirement. A conversation with a colleague made him realise he had never actually checked the numbers, and he was uncertain about his property situation, his insurance coverage, and whether early retirement was even possible.

The Approach

The Flourishing Fifties Programme took him through each area systematically — pension projections, savings acceleration potential in his remaining working years, insurance review, and early retirement feasibility based on his actual numbers.

The Outcome

He completed the programme with a written action plan and a realistic view of early retirement at 60. The quarterly reviews helped him stay on course after the sessions ended, and he adjusted his voluntary EPF contributions based on recommendations from the programme.

RETIREMENT HEALTHCARE DEEP-DIVE

A couple who attended together and came away with a shared plan.

The Challenge

A couple in their early 50s had never discussed healthcare financial planning together in any structured way. Their insurance policies had been chosen years ago, and neither felt confident about whether they were adequate for retirement.

The Approach

Attending together meant their situation could be discussed as a household. The Healthcare Deep-Dive gave them a shared vocabulary, a common understanding of Malaysian medical cost realities, and the projection model to work with side-by-side.

The Outcome

They identified two specific gaps in their critical illness coverage and one area of duplication. Armed with the projection model, they had a productive meeting with their insurance adviser and made changes that better suited their retirement horizon.
